How Far Apart They Actually Were
Stegosaurus lived in the Late Jurassic, mostly around 155 to 150 million years ago. The best skeletons come from the Morrison Formation in the western United States, alongside Diplodocus, Allosaurus, and Brachiosaurus.
Tyrannosaurus rex shows up much later, about 68 to 66 million years ago. That is a gap of roughly 80 million years. For comparison, T. rex died out 66 million years ago. There is more empty time between Stegosaurus and T. rex than between T. rex and you.
If a T. rex had gone fossil hunting, Stegosaurus would already have been as ancient to it as T. rex is to us.
